Placement Test: EnglishAll students must take the English Placement Test unless they have completed English 1A with a "C" grade (proof required), or have a qualifying College Board Advanced Placement Test score or have completed Associate of Arts, or higher degree in the UNITED STATES. Students whose strongest language is not English should take the ESL test instead. Taking the wrong test may delay placement up to 6 weeks. If both an English writing and reading class are assigned, the student will receive maximum benefit by taking both during the same quarter. For English 1A, a student must have a qualifying score on the De Anza English Placement Test. All other students are advised to complete one or a combination of the assigned remedial courses, depending on their placement scores. For English 1B, 1C, or 2, students who have completed prerequisites at other colleges must provide the Assessment Office transcript proof of successful completion ("C" grade or better) of the prerequisite course before enrollment. Students who have completed prerequites at Foothill College must contact Assessment Office prior to registration . Students may re-test after 6 months. English Placement Test is offered as Computerized Test in Testing Lab, Monday through Thursday during hours listed. Saturday testing is available only when specific dates are listed. There are no appointments. Computerized English Placement Test - consists of writing sample and untimed multiple choice. Testing is done on drop-in basis. There are no appointments. Students should allow a minimum of 2 hours to take the test.
