Placement Testing Retest Policies
In keeping with matriculation guidelines and to better conserve limited resources, De Anza College enforces the following policies regarding retesting for subjects listed.
Students cannot retest in a subject if they enroll and receive grades W, D, F or Incomplete.
English
- Students are eligible for one (1) initial test.
- Students assigned writing and reading courses below college level must enroll and pass either the assigned Writing or Reading course to be eligible to retest in the other subject.
- Test results do not expire.
- Students who tested 5 or more years ago and did not enroll in English writing or reading courses may retest.
ESL
- Students are eligible for one (1) test.
- Test results do not expire.
- Students who tested 5 or more years ago and did not enroll in ESL courses may retest.
Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology
- Students who take placement tests in math, chemistry, or biology and do not enroll and receive grades in these courses are eligible for one (1) re-test after six (6) months.
- Students who enroll and pass a math course may request permission to test on a higher math placement test if they did not previously take the higher test.
- Permission to retest requires students to provide proof of study or preparation for the retest.
