About De Anza's Student-Athletes Program
Welcome to De Anza College! You may already be aware of the fine athletic reputation the school has. In fact, that may be a big factor in considering attending De Anza. You should also understand that De Anza's academic reputation is unparalleled.
We are the biggest feeder school for students transferring to the UC and CSU system in California. We also transfer students to many of the best private universities around, including Stanford, Santa Clara, USC, University of San Francisco, University of the Pacific, St. Mary's to name a few.
The commitment to the success of the student-athlete is paramount at De Anza College. That is why we have Matt Trosper, a full-time Athletic Academic Advisor who works only with Student-Athletes. Matt has been working with De Anza student-athletes for the past 17 years. He is very knowledgeable with eligibility requirements at every level of collegiate competition (NCAA division 1,2 or 3 and NAIA), as well as all transfer and degree requirements.
There are many demands upon a student-athlete's time. A student-athlete must maintain a full-time academic load (12 or more units) and meet the time commitments of their sport. On top of this, many student-athletes work part-time. A student-athlete also has a limited time frame in which to compete at the collegiate level. (A divsion 1 student-athlete has 5 years in which to compete in 4 years of their sport. This clock starts as soon as they are a full-time student.) You can see the need for accurate and balanced academic as a Student-Athlete. Matt is here to help you achieve your goals and keep you on track.
A smart and balanced academic load are the keys to your success as a student-athlete at De Anza College. Matt is here to help you plan, get you in touch with any college program which may help you, and to keep you on the right track.
De Anza student-athletes have access to the best facilities, coaches, and academic preparation. Once enrolled as a student-athlete, in addition to Matt's services, you will receive priority registration for your classes. You receive this benefit because you are mandated to complete a certain number of units every quarter. You also have very limited time in the day to take your classes, due to your practice and competition schedule. Priority registration also allows you to stay on track with regards to the time-line in which you need to transfer.
Any De Anza student-athlete, potential De Anza student-athlete, or any student-athlete from another college needing advice is free to contact Matt.
If you are going to be a new student-athlete to De Anza College, there are some specific steps that you have to follow.
