Message from Athletics Director Kulwant Singh
Welcome to De Anza College Athletics. It has been my privilege to serve as the Director of Athletics at De Anza College since July 2004.
De Anza College Athletics has a rich history of academics and athletic accomplishments. Many of our student-athletes have transferred to the university level and some have even competed professionally. Many top coaches and staff work or have worked at De Anza College over the years. We are proud of these individuals and their contributions to the success of De Anza College Athletics.
When I became the Athletic Director, the coaches and staff and I set the goal to reach new heights both on and off the field. Here are some highlights that show our progress in reaching that goal:
- De Anza College Athletics has increased its visibility on campus by sponsoring a student-athlete recognition program. The sophomore Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year now each receive $1000 scholarships in an award ceremony in front of the college community.
- In 2007-08, the Dons captured the Bud Ottmar Coast Conference All Sports Trophy. This award is given annually to the top Coast Conference College (seventeen colleges), based on a point system reflecting the place each team finishes in conference play.
- In 2007-08, the athletic department saw three of its coaches earn Coast Conference Coach of the Year and one coach be recognized as the West Region Coach of the Year. Seven teams reached postseason play and numerous individuals competed at NorCal and State levels.
- In 2007-08, there were four All-Americans, two All-West, several All NorCal, and numerous All Coast Conference performers. Approximately 100 of the 350+ De Anza College student-athletes earned a cumulative 3.00GPA or above.
I believe that an actively involved Athletics Director leads to a successful athletics program. I am very involved with Athletics Administration professionals and currently serve on the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletics Administrators (NATYCAA/NACDA). In California, I am actively involved with the California Community College Athletics Association (CCCAA/COA) and the California Community College Athletics Directors Association (CCCADA). I am a current member of the CCCAA Management Council.
De Anza has dedicated faculty, staff and coaches. It is these committed individuals who insure the success of our student-athletes and teams. We are committed to excellence and we welcome you to join us in reaching our goals.
