Head Coach Nick Mattis
Coach Mattis is coaching his eighth season at De Anza this fall. In his first seven seasons, he lead both the Men's and Women's teams to the California Cross Country State Championships each year, with the 2009 Women's team finishing 5th in the state and the 2012 team finishing 4th. Mattis coached Katie Castro the 2012 Individual State Champion. The women's teams have won four Coast Conference titles in the first six years. 43 Men and Women student-athletes have been named All-Conference since Coach Mattis has taken over at De Anza. Coach Mattis was named the 2012 California Community College Womens Cross Country Coach of the Year.
He received his Master's Degree from Western Illinois University in Sport Management and his Bachelor's Degree in K-12 Physical Education from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA.
Assistant Coach Oddessy Tapia
Coach Tapia will begin her first year coaching with the Dons after finishing her collegiate running career at CSU East Bay where she is currently working on her MS in Kinesiology. Oddessy was one of the top XC and Track runners for East Bay while she was competing there. Prior to running at East Bay, Tapia was an All-American at De Anza in the 3000 Steeplechase and competed in the state meet in both track and XC, qualifying for state in each both years. She is still currently on the All-Time Top 10 list in track in multiple events.
