We focus on campus and community organizing and young voter engagement. Join De Anza students in the Santa Cruz mountains for the weekend of May 4 -5, 2012.

5/17Visiting Speakers Series: Education and Youth Aspirations for the Future in Silicon Valley With Elsa Davidson, Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Montclair State University, Montclair, NJ. What factors influence the hopes and aspirations of Silicon Valley high school students and how do those hopes differ based on class and race? Davidson is the author of The Burdens of Aspiration: Youth, Schooling, and Inequality in Silicon Valley, that explored the world of two Silicon Valley high schools, one very affluent and mostly white and Asian, the other mostly working class and Latino. From 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Hinson Campus Center, Conference Rooms A&B.
