Ideas are shared, and the camaraderie and enthusiasm are contagious. The furniture design class has introduced me to new materials and common woodworking techniques, and allowed me to design and build my own projects. McLeod “Prior to taking Furniture Design I had no previous experience in woodworking, sculpture, or use of shop equipment. Since taking the class I have a great understanding on how to properly use shop tools to construct my designs into furniture with precision within a reasonable time. The process of building and designing to create an individual work of art has benefited my overall understanding of the elements of three-dimensional design and aesthetics. By taking this class I have learned new techniques and have greatly benefited from the advice and knowledge of the instructor and lab technician. By broadening my knowledge base I have become a better and more creative furniture designer and furniture maker. The challenge to improve imposed by the instructor has helped me to produce better quality furniture and sculpture items. I think the most important thing any student learns from this class is how to safely use the equipment in the lab. The safety aspects of the power tools are emphasized from the first day of class and monitored by the instructor and lab technician continuously. I have also learned better techniques of designing, preparing, assembling, and finishing furniture products.”
