I recommend you complete your orientation now by clicking the "Continue" button at the bottom of this page (after carefully reading this page) and the "next page" button on each subsequent page (after skim-reading those pages) until it lets you put in your name and email address (on the Student Information Form page,) then come back to this page and watch the video showing the basics of how to complete your McGraw-Hill Connect registration. You will find the link to this video further down on this page, under the heading
How to get started in your course. After watching the video, click any underlined occurrence of the expression
McGraw-Hill Connect that appears on this page and register for the course on the McGraw-Hill Connect website. If you don't start your course on a timely basis (i.e. by Sunday, September 30, 2012,) I will drop you from the course for "inadequate attendance in the first week of the quarter," and you will not be able to add back, so
don't wait, start your course today!
This course is NOT available in De Anza's Catalyst system. Instead, it uses a state-of-the art interactive multimedia online course delivery system called
McGraw-Hill Connect. This is a 5 unit course, so success in this course will require an estimated 6-10 hours of your time per week for 12 weeks.
You must buy and read the assigned pages in the course textbook in order to be
successful in this class. The textbook is
Selected Materials from Understanding Business by Nickels, McHugh & McHugh, 9th edition. If you buy your book at the De Anza College bookstore, it will be a custom textbook based on the text
Understanding Business by Nickels, McHugh and McHugh, 9th edition. It contains only the chapters we will be using. Also, if you buy the custom textbook
NEW from the De Anza College bookstore, it will come bundled with a McGraw-Hill Connect registration card. This will save you $39.99 when you go to register on the McGraw-Hill Connect website. If you buy a
used textbook, you will have to pay $39.99 with a credit card to register on the McGraw-Hill Connect website. Please note that the textbook
must be the 9th edition; the 7th, 8th, and 10th editions
will not work.
In order to take this course, you will need to register for the course on the
McGraw-Hill Connect website no later than
September 30th. If you don't, I will drop you from the class. Registering for the course on the De Anza MyPortal system, while required, is NOT the same as registering for the course on the McGraw-Hill Connect system. You must do both. Once again, the due date for registering on the
McGraw-Hill Connect system is
Sunday, September 30, 2012.
Be prepared to spend a minimum of 6 hours per week using and studying the course materials.
The easiest way to get started in your course is to click on any of the
underlined occurrences of the expression
McGraw-Hill Connect that appear on this page. This will open a new window or tab in your browser at the McGraw-Hill Connect page that is specifically dedicated to this class. You might want to leave the new window or tab open while you finish this online orientation in your original window or tab, then come back to it to complete your
McGraw-Hill Connect registration. When you are ready to complete your
McGraw-Hill Connect registration, do the following: In the new window or tab, make sure the COURSE says "Introduction to Business Fall 2012" and the SECTION says "Section 62Z". Click the "REGISTER NOW" button. Enter your usual email address and click the "Submit" button. Enter the 20 digit registration code from the registration card that came with your new custom textbook into the spaces provided and click the "Submit" button, or click the "Buy Online" button and follow the prompts to complete the registration process using a credit card. Alternatively, you can get free temporary access to the site by clicking the "Start Free Trial" button and following the prompts. I believe the Free Trial period is 10 days.

inadequate attendance.
