A Message from your Instructor

Welcome to LIB 1, Library Research Skills.

Please note: there is no lab for this class.

Please note: there is no on-campus orientation for this course.

Read the information contained on this page, visit and review our class website, and then, unless you have questions, begin working on Assignment #1.

Your instructor's name is Pauline Yeckley (that's me!) In addition to teaching this class, I am a librarian at De Anza College Library.

During this class we will review various websites and tools that can be used for college research.

  • The class website provides information about assignments, final exam, and due dates.

  • Log on to the site and look for our class, LIB 1, Library Research Skills.

  • Note that I do not drop students. It is the responsibility of each student to either complete the work for this course or to drop the course.

  • There are five assignments and a final for this class.

  • For detailed information, read the section Grading, Assignment Due Dates, and Final Exam Notes located on the class website.

  • I hope you enjoy this course, and contact me whenever you have questions.

    Be prepared to spend a minimum of 1 or 2 hours per week using and studying the course materials.
    How to get started in your course
    Getting Started:
  • Make sure you have your own e-mail address and access to the Internet.

  • Send me a short e-mail introducing yourself. I will send a reply. That way we can test our e-mail connection.

  • Locate our class on the Distance Learning Catalyst Website.

  • Here is a link: Distance Learning Catalyst Website.

  • Look around our class website. Practice using the links.

  • Begin working on Assignment #1.

  • After completing the first assignment, scroll down a bit and find the button Edit my Submission. Open this and you will see an empty white box titled, Submission Box. Write your answers in this box. You may work on this assignment until it is due. At that time, I will read your assignment and post your grade. I will also post a note with feedback for each assignment.

  • Use the same procedure for all five assignments.

  • The final is a true/false and multiple choice test. There is a link to the final on our class website.
