Meet Barry Johnson
Barry Johnson, Admissions and Records supervisor, has worked in that office for more than 13 years. Previously, Johnson worked at San Jose City College and graduated from San Jose State University in 1991 with a B.S. in design and illustration. He credits the multiple opportunities for training he received at De Anza, such as the Supervisors Academy, for the job skills he uses every day.
"De Anza College gives employees great support and training for their jobs," he says. "Many people have also helped me succeed in my job, and I couldn't do it without them. I especially appreciate Pat Fifield, with whom I have worked for more than 12 years."
Angela Buchanan, Child Development and Education instructor, says Johnson has made a significant contribution to the college. "I'm always able to contact Barry when I need immediate help with an A&R problem. He always answers his phone, has the correct answer and helps me with the issue."
Buchanan attributes his success not only to his job skills but also to his people skills. "He is approachable, caring and eager to help. He never makes you feel that you are bothering him. In person, he always has a smile on his face and make the work place a better place. The district and college are lucky to have him."
Johnson says he feels very fortunate in his position. "The thing I enjoy most about my job is dealing with people. I pretty much deal with every type of person, whether they are faculty, staff or students, and it is a great reward knowing I am making a difference in helping people to reach their goals."
