Meet Angelita Pabros
Angelita Pabros serves as the administrative assistant for the Student Success and Retention Services (SSRS) Program. She has just completed eight years as a division administrative assistant, six years in Admissions and Records and two years in Counseling and Matriculation. "I find my job in Student Success and Retention Services very rewarding," says Pabros. "Working with a team dedicated to student success is fantastic."
Although her job title may sound pretty straightforward, that is not the case. "Angelita wears many hats on a daily basis providing program, staff and student support for the Puente, Transfer Opportunity, First Year Experience, Summer Bridge and the new Sankofa Scholars programs," says David Coleman, counselor and director of SSRS. "These are programs that provide academic and retention support services for more than 475 "at risk" students on the De Anza campus."
In addition, Pabros manages an extensive student database, creates various program reports, assists with student employee supervision and does so with exceptional proficiency, according to Coleman.
Whether she is arranging for bus tours to four-year universities, providing backup coverage for the Counseling and Advising Center, or assisting faculty, staff and especially students, "Angelita can always be counted on to get the job done with grace and competence," says Coleman.
"Coming from a military family where adapting to change was necessary has helped me be flexible in my job when needed," Pabros says. "Living overseas also helped me learn respect for other people and cultures and offered excellent preparation for working on such a diverse campus."
