Meet Sandra Sokabe

Sandra Sokabe has worked as a clinic nurse in De Anza's Student Health Services for more than seven years. She is a registered nurse with a master's degree in counseling psychology. "I just received my license as an esthetician this year as well, something that has always been a personal interest of mine."

Mary Sullivan, director of Health Services, says Sokabe is a team player who demonstrates flexibility and creativity in meeting students' needs. "Sandra helps students schedule office appointments, which was especially challenging when the office's nurse practitioner was on jury duty for three weeks," says Sullivan. "She also gives immunizations and takes vital signs and intake information prior to their office visit. In the past she has shifted her hours to cover evening TB testing because of staffing shortages."
Sokabe also mentors nursing students on clinical rotation through Health Services, explaining and illustrating many nursing skills while in the office. "I really enjoy working with the students at De Anza College," she says. "I have found that I am able to utilize both my nursing as well as counseling skills in this position, which has been great. I am also very happy to have some of the best colleagues!"

Sokabe is in charge of the Campus Blood drive during fall, winter and spring quarters, ensuring its continued success.
