Riot Grrrl Series: Punk Rock Open Mic

Poets and artists will share their talents around the theme of punk resistance to oppression. We aim to further the rebellious spirit of the riot grrrl movement to uplift the voices of queer, trans, disabled and POC folx, as well as anyone who has historically been left out of the conversation. Everyone is welcome to come and share!

Please contact spielmannalexander@deanza.edu if you want to perform.

This is the third in a punk-tastic series of events for our Women’s Herstory/Women in Power Month, hosted by the Jean Miller Resource Room for Women, Genders and Sexuality. This series will focus on the role of punk, and more specifically the work of the Riot Grrrl Collective, in late 20th-century feminist movements. We’ll also discuss ways to bring Riot Grrrl feminism into 21st-century intersectional feminist movements.

See and experience the power of women taking control of cultural production. We’ll learn some history, listen to some music – and make some art of our own. Join us on Zoom!
