I have had the honor of being a classroom teacher for over 25 years, having spent almost 18 years at San Francisco State University, Cal State. East Bay, and at College of San Mateo. I have been teaching at De Anza since 2002.
I teach developmental reading, composition, grammar, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills to students of diverse linguistic, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds from all over the world. At De Anza, I am also assigned as the Curricular Supervisor to ESL Readiness, one of the nine student support programs of the Student Success Center (SCC). I write curriculum for required and elective Readiness Lab courses, train, observe, and mentor our Readiness Teaching Assistants (RTAs), and collaborate with other faculty supervisors in the SCC to ensure educational equity and student success.
I was raised on the beach on the East Coast, and everywhere I've lived, I could see and smell the ocean. This sense of the sea is important to me and I seek out warm water whenever I can. I currently live in Belmont, CA, in a coastal gap, where the fog from the Pacific boils in from the west and the Bay beckons from the east. When I’m not working, I enjoy cooking, reading, swimming, walking, seeing movies, and socializing with friends and family.
