Course Syllabi

A New England transplant, I was born in Maine, raised in New Hampshire, and lived several years in Boston, MA before migrating to California. Consequently, my students might hear a slight east coast accent.

I received a B.A. in American Studies from the University of California-Santa Cruz and an M.A. in English from San Francisco State University.

My interests include gardening, reading, and being outdoors in nature. I also am an active advocate for California Community Colleges and have spent many hours in Sacramento lobbying on behalf of students and faculty. I have served on the Board of Governors for the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges(FACCC)for a number of years and was recently re-elected to the Board as the Part-Time Faculty Executive Officer.

I have gained much inspiration from the quintessential 19th century Transcendentalist, Henry David Thoreau. Growing up in New England, Thoreau was essential reading. A social critic and naturalist, Thoreau continuously challenges his readers to question the world around them and to look to nature for answers.
