Lab Procedures

Freezing Point Experiment

Prep the procedure as outlined in the handout.  Record all data in your notebook and on the worksheets.  You will turn in the worksheets during the second lab period assigned for this experiment.

Turn in your duplicate copies and your graph.  Report the percent error for the Kf of water in comparison to the known Kf value.  Write a brief conclusion in your lab notebook stating the purpose of the lab, your results, and discuss the quality of your results. Were there any points that should have been excluded from the graph?  Why?

Buffers  Due 3/15/17

Prepare the procedure as outlined.  DO THE CALCULATIONS FOR PREPARING YOUR  BUFFER AHEAD OF TIME!  These calculations should be done in your laboratory notebook and will be checked as part of the pre-lab.

Section 1:

For this lab, a student who's last name begins with A, B,C,D,E, F, G, H, I, J, K, Lam will do calculations for a pH 5 buffer, last name starting with Le-N will do calculations for a pH 10 buffer, and starting with O-Z will do calculations for a pH 12 buffer.  I will be assigning lab partners.

Section 2:

For this lab, a student who's last name begins with A, B, C, D, E, F, G,H, I, J, K, L- Lee will do calculations for a pH 5 buffer, last name starting with Lin-P will do calculations for a pH 10 buffer, and starting with R-Z will do calculations for a pH 12 buffer.  I will be assigning lab partners.

Please make sure the calculations from pg 15 and 16 are in your lab notebook.  Generate the required graph by hand on the 20 sq/in graph paper supplied in lab.  Make sure to mark the areas indicated on page 18.  Additionally, calculate what the pH of the solution should be at the following points and compare it to the actual pHs experimentally determined through percent error.

a. pH before any acid is added.

b. pH at the half equivalence point

c. pH at the equivalence point

Turn your graph and duplicate copies for the report
