Course Syllabi

ES 1- Intro to Environmental Studies; Energy Management; Building Science; Building Automation Systems; Energy Efficiency in Buildings, Sustainable Buildings, Solar, Renewable and Alternative Energy, Student Internships, Entrepreneurship
BS Business Administration (Marketing), California State University Chico; AA - Energy Management and Climate Policy, De Anza College
I have been a part time instructor at De Anza College since 2010. In addition to teaching ES 1- Intro to Environmental Studies, I am the Lead Instructor and Program Coordinator for the Energy Management and Building Science Program (EM&BS).

In Spring 2015, I entered 10 new Energy Management classes into curriculum to broaden our educational offering and to position De Anza Energy Management and Building Science students for emerging green energy and clean tech jobs and careers in Santa Clara County and throughout the State of California. Look for the addition of a Certificate of Achievement -Advanced and AS Degree to the EM&BS program in Fall 2016.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY: I strongly believe that we all learn differently and I use a variety of different teaching methods in my classes. I strive to make each session engaging and try hard to get students involved. I want EVERY ONE of my students to be successful. I make it easy for students to feel comfortable and participate, while gaining knowledge and insight into the environmental issues we face today. I place an emphasis on learning and increasing awareness while making my classes fun at the same time. I have found that students prefer and get more out of conversations and discussions about environmental issues affecting them today than one way lectures. Consider taking one of my GE ES 1 classes. You will enjoy the experience and learn a lot at the same time !

In exit surveys of students in my GE classes in 2014-2015, 95 % said they learned more than they thought they would when they registered for my class and 90% enjoyed coming to class- even at 8:30 or 9:30 in the morning!

ENERGY MANAGEMENT and BUILDING SCIENCE PROGRAM (EM&BS): I work hard to provide real life experiences, internships and hands on opportunities for EM&BS students to learn about the industry and the technologies associated with the green collar economy. I am always looking to bring instructors into our program who are not only subject matter experts in their fields, but that can also offer our students internship and job opportunities as part of their educational learning experience.

Our department focus is on classroom education, hands on laboratory work and actual job related experiences that make our students leading career candidates in the growing clean energy and renewable energy markets upon completion of the EM&BS program.

BACKGROUND: In addition to teaching, I am the co- founder and VP of Marketing and Business Development for a utility scale solar energy start up company. Prior to 2010, I spent 28 years in Product and Channel Marketing and Sales Management at four different Silicon Valley Electronics companies.

My experience raising two adult children who learn differently allow me to relate to the diverse educational needs of today's students. I enjoy teaching, mentoring and working with students to assist them in finding and following their true passion personally and professionally. I take a dedicated and involved interest in helping my students be successful.
