Course Syllabi

ES 1- Intro to Environmental Studies; ESCI 1- Intro to Environmental Science; Energy Efficiency in Buildings, Solar Energy, Sustainable Buildings, Energy Management, Student Mentorship, Student Internships, Entrepreneurship
BS Business Administration, California State University Chico; AA - Energy Management and Climate Policy, De Anza College
I have been a part time instructor at De Anza College since 2010. In addition to teaching ES 1- Intro to Environmental Studies and ESCI 1- Intro to Environmental Science classes, I am the Lead Energy Management and Building Science Instructor and Energy Management Program Coordinator for the Environmental Studies/ Science Department. I just submitted 10 new Energy Management classes for approval to the Curriculum Committee in June 2015 to broaden our educational offerings and to position Energy Management and Building Science students for emerging green energy and clean tech jobs and careers in Santa Clara County and throughout the State of California. I have also proposed adding a Certificate of Achievement -Advanced and AS Degree to our program.

My teaching philosophy on ES 1 and ESCI 1 is to make my classes engaging and interactive. I teach in a way that meets students halfway and makes it easy for them to engage and participate and learn more about the environment and ecosystem. I deliver a curriculum that educates and increases awareness and is fun at the same time. I prefer interaction in the classroom over one way lectures and long videos.

95 % of my ES 1 students say they learn more than they thought they would when they registered for the class and 90% looked forward to coming to class each day- even at 8:30 or 9:30 in the morning!

In regard to the Energy Management and Building Science program, I work hard on providing real life experiences, internships and hands on opportunities for students to learn about the industry and the technology associated with the green collar economy. I am always looking to bring instructors into our program who are not only subject matter experts in their fields, but can also offer our students internship and job opportunities as part of their educational learning experience. Our department focus is on classroom education, hands on laboratory work and actual job related experiences that make our students leading career candidates in the growing clean energy and renewable energy markets upon completion of our program.

In addition to teaching, I am the co- founder and VP of Marketing for a utility scale solar energy start up company. Prior to 2010, I spent 28 years in Product and Channel Marketing and Sales Management at four different Silicon Valley companies. My experience raising two adult children who learn differently, allow me to relate to the diverse educational needs of today's students. I enjoy teaching, mentoring and working with all students to assist them in finding and following their true passion professionally and personally. I take a dedicated and passionate interest in helping my students to be successful.
