Financial Aid

Satisfactory Progress

Financial Aid Probation and Disqualification

Appeal and Reinstatement

  • Every financial aid applicant's academic history is reviewed after economic eligibility is determined to see if the student is meeting the minimum standards of satisfactory progress. Satisfactory progress is equally as important as economic qualification. This is typically the last determination to be made before awarding.
  • Minimum standards include both unit completion and grade point average on a quarterly and cumulative basis.
  • All applicants and continuing recipients must meet the minimum standards each quarter or they will be placed on financial aid probation. Students on financial aid probation continue to be eligible for aid during the probationary quarter. Should the student fail to meet the minimum standards at the end of the probationary quarter, the student will be disqualified from financial aid.
  • After disqualification, an Appeal For One Additional Quarter of Financial Aid Probation may be made to extend the period of probation for one, and only one, additional quarter in the event that the unusual circumstances that caused the problems have now been resolved. Students must make a written appeal outlining the issues and the resolutions. Only clear cases will be granted an extension.
  • Additionally, the maximum number of earned units may not exceed the limits established by the educational goal (AA/AS degree, Transfer, Vocational Certificate). Students who are applying for aid to complete their educational goal beyond the maximum number of units are also considered disqualified for not having met their educational objective in the maximum time frame
  • Financial aid recipients who withdraw completely before 60% of the term is over may have to return a portion of the aid received which was not earned. Students may arrange for a Leave of Absence if they are planning on returning the following quarter. Students who withdraw and do not repay funds will have an institutional hold placed on future De Anza registration and transcripts and a national hold placed on future aid eligibility at any institution.
