Carolyn Keen Literature Prize - Call for Essays

All students who have written an essay on works of literature in a De Anza College English course during this past year are eligible to enter the annual Carolyn Keen Literature Prize competition, sponsored by the Foothill-De Anza Foundation.

The prize is in recognition of Carolyn Keen, a founding member of the college's English Department and Literature Studies. Prizes range from $100 to $300. The top winning essay will be published in the Red Wheelbarrow, De Anza's literary magazine.

Deadline: Friday, May 23, 2008

Requirements

1. Open to students who have written essays in a De Anza College English course during the past academic year since Fall Quarter 2007.
2. Submission of an essay that presents an analysis of a literary text or texts.
3. The essay must be a minimum of three pages and a maximum of 10 pages.

How to Apply

1. Submit a one-page, typed cover letter stating academic and career goals. Please include your name, email address, home address and home phone. Be sure to identify the course for which you wrote your essay.
2. Submit two copies of your essay.
3. Submit printed copies of all paper work to Steve Howland, English Department Literature committee representative, by May 23, 2008. Howland’s mailbox is located in the Language Arts Office, L11.
