About the Department

The Photography Department offers exceptional instruction in beginning, intermediate and advanced photography.

Our students develop the technical, critical and practical skills required to succeed in this constantly challenging and changing medium. De Anza alums have gone on to careers in advertising, editorial work, photo illustration, fashion, architecture and product photography.

FREE Noncredit Courses and Certificates!

We now offer free, noncredit Photography courses and certificates, in addition to our academic credit programs. Noncredit courses do not count toward a degree or academic certificate, but they offer a new way to gain valuable skills and explore career options, without worrying about grades or tuition.

The photography department has one of the best-equipped and largest facilities in the Bay Area. The department maintains a fully operating wet darkroom and professionally equipped digital labs. Students are given the opportunity to apply new skills to real and simulated situations found in photographic careers.

Visual communication and principles of image control and craft are essential components of all photography classes at De Anza. Fine art and documentary photography are also integral parts of the program.

We offer associate degrees in Photographic Arts and Professional Photography, as well as a certificate of achievement in Professional Photography.  These programs produce photographers who are highly employable team members in an expanding multimedia work force.

We also offer classes that qualify as General Education (GE) courses, which are transferable to all CSU and UC campuses.
