The show times above are starting times. Shows are approximately one hour in length. All groups attending require a reservation and must check- in at least 10 minutes before show start time to pay admission fees.
Groups arriving more than 5 minutes late may not be admitted into auditorium if interior lights have been dimmed down. The Planetarium is closed to school field trips during college astronomy classes, school observed holidays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Field Trip Admission Fee
Discounted admission is $4.50 per student, chaperone or teacher (minimum of 25 people or more in attendance is required)
Payments are due in full the day of field trip at check-in, we accept credit cards (visa, mastercard and discover) cash and school or personal checks payable to: De Anza College Planetarium
Reservations for Schools and Groups
To reserve your field trip date and time you may call the planetarium office at (408) 864 8814 Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. or reach us via email at: hawthornmargarita@deanza.edu
Please provide the following information:
- Name of teacher and person making reservation
- Contact phone number and email address
- School name and mailing address
- Preferred dates and times you would like to visit the Planetarium. Please refer to our show schedule above for start times and days.
- Number of seats to be reserved for all students, chaperones and teachers in your group.
The Planetarium seating capacity is 135. A minimum of 25 people or more in attendance is required to reserve a spot, if your group has less than 25 we will be happy to schedule you along with another group, depending on availability. - The name of the show you would like your group to view. Show Descriptions (pdf) Each one of our presentations includes a “Tour of the Night Sky” which shows the current night sky’s constellations and planets.
We are continually taking reservations and some of your preferred dates and times may have already been taken by other groups please have alternate dates and times also available.
We recommend making reservations at least two months in advance (whenever possible) to ensure date and seating availability. Be patient, the planetarium serves approximately 25,000+ visitors every year and sometimes it is not possible to accommodate every school or group on their preferred date and time. Once your school or group has a date and time reserved in our calendar, a written confirmation will be sent to the contact person either by E-mail or regular mail.
Other field trip information:
Please Note: Your group will be entering a Community College Campus environment and must be respectful of their surroundings. Since there are classrooms adjacent to the Planetarium we ask from your students to keep their voices down while they wait to enter the Planetarium – we greatly appreciate your cooperation, thank you.
Parking:
School bus drop off area is located by the Science Center Building next to parking lot E. Busses should park across the street behind the Oaks shopping center. If you are arriving by car, please park in Lot C Structure. All cars require a parking permit, which can be obtained from yellow permit machines located on all lots. Permits cost $2.00 and are valid for the entire day.
Confirmations:
Once your reservation is on the calendar, a written confirmation, general information and campus map will be mailed or emailed to the contact person and or teacher.
Eating Areas:
Your group is welcome to eat their snacks or lunch on any grassy area around campus, the cement quad located next to the Planetarium building or across the street at Memorial Park; however there is no eating, drinking or gum chewing permitted inside the Planetarium Facility.
