Getting Started

Placement test results determine which reading class you should take. Then, follow the sequence of reading courses to prepare for EWRT 1A: College Writing and Reading.

READ 200 Reading Fundamentals Qualifying score on the Reading Placement Test An introduction to everyday benefits of reading. A practice in learning and applying reading methods to appropriate reading material and learning strategies for improving reading comprehension and rate.This is a non-GE course with pass/no pass grading.
READ 211 Developmental Reading READ 200 or a qualifying score on the Reading Placement  Improve ability to read independently and effectively in work, academic, and personal environments. This is a non-GE course with pass/no pass grading.
LART 200 Developing Reading and Writing Connections Qualifying score on the Reading Placement Test Development of reading and writing abilities to the level necessary to be successful in Reading 211 and English Writing 211. Comprehension of assigned readings. Writing focused on a central idea, developed with specific examples, organized according to a reasonably clear progression of ideas and largely free of major grammatical, syntactic, usage and diction errors. This is a non-GE course with pass/no pass grading.
LART 211 Integrated Reading and Writing Successful completion of LART 200 or READ 200 and/or EWRT 200; or a qualifying score on the Reading and Writing  Placement Test

Integration of reading and writing skills necessary for success in college level courses. Emphasis on analysis and criticism of assigned readings and written responses to critical questions about those readings. This is a non-GE course with pass/no pass grading.
