About the Strategic Planning Initiative
The strategic planning process has engaged the college community in shaping
De Anza's future. Through a process called story-based planning, more than 80 faculty, staff and administrators have worked on the development of
a long-range strategic plan that will guide the college through the next decade.
This critical initiative will help clarify and affirm the college's values and
define its role in this region. It will address many factors that affect students
and De Anza, such as technology, economy, and changing demographics. This site
provides information about the planning process and will enable you to follow
the development of the Strategic Plan.
What Is Story-Based Planning?
Story-based planning is a new technique for strategic planning and execution
that takes into account the many uncertainties that are the reality of today's
world. The central theme of story-based planning is that organizations must
change the way they think about and plan for the future. Story-based strategy
both confronts and deals with uncertainty and leads to a strategy that is focused
but resilient, specific but flexible. It also deals with cultural and organizational
changes that an organization must undertake to maximize the benefits of the
stories that are created.
