Listening and Speaking Center (LSC)

LSC Language Exchange

Students at a tableWhat is the Language Exchange:

The Language Exchange is a program that promotes language learning through student partners sharing their native languages and cultures.

Listening and Speaking Center offers this program for two weeks each quarter.

In spring 2013, the Language Exchange program will take place from May 20 to May 31. The deadline is on May 6.

How the Language Exchange Works:

It's simple! You exchange your native language for the language you are learning in one or more 60-minute sessions in L 47.

For example, if you are learning English and your first language is Japanese, you will meet with an English native speaker who is learning Japanese and practice your languages together.

This program is a lot of fun. In fact, some partners have been meeting for more than a year.

How is this program different from Cross Cultural Partners (CCP)?

Like CCP, the Language Exchange fosters cross-cultural friendships and communication between ESL and non-ESL students.

In addition, the Language Exchange strives to give students who are learning a new language—be it English, Mandarin, Japanese, Italian, etc.—an opportunity to practice outside of their classes with a native speaker of that language.
