Transfer Planning - California State University

California State University System (CSU) Home Page

CSUMentor.org - an online resource designed to help students and their families learn about the CSU system, select a CSU campus to attend, plan to finance higher education, and apply for admission.

Five main elements for transfer to one of the 23 campuses of the California State University:

Admission
Minimum Eligibility/Admission requirements for entrance to a CSU

General Education (GE)
Options for completing a GE pattern

Majors
Completing lower division major requirements is also key

Selection
Some of the CSUs have additional screening criteria

Electives
Courses chosen to complete your 90 transferable quarter units as a CSU transfer

When do I apply?

CSU Application Filing Periods
Application Term Applications First Accepted Initial Filing Period
Spring Semester/Quarter 2010* August 1, 2009 August 1-31, 2009
Fall Semester/Quarter 2009 October 1, 2009 October 1-November 30, 2009
Winter Quarter 2010* June 1, 2010 June 1-30, 2010
Spring Semester/Quarter 2010* August 1, 2010 August 1-31, 2010

* Due to budget cutbacks, the California State University has closed admissions for the 2010 Spring term with very few exceptions. To determine if a specific campus and/or program is accepting applications visit http://www.csumentor.edu/filing_status/ and click on the campus notice column. As a result of the precarious budget situation throughout the state of California, students interested in applying during the 2010-2011 academic year should apply as early as possible and check CSUMentor periodically to determine the admission status for Winter and Spring terms.

Caution: The final responsibility for a successful transfer program rests with the student. Resources online and at De Anza College are designed to assist you in getting as accurate information as possible. This information changes frequently, however, and can impact your admission to the university. It is highly advised that you meet periodically with advisors at both De Anza College and at the prospective university to confirm your choice of classes and develop an educational plan.
