Transfer Planning - University of California

University of California (UC) System Home Page

UCTransfer Web site - Information for California community college students planning to transfer to UC. The Web site explains what is needed to transfer and how to make smart course choices now that will maximize chances of being admitted to UC.

Five main elements for transfer to any one of the campuses of the University of California:

Admission
Minimum Eligibility/Admission requirements for entrance to UC

General Education (GE)
Options for completing a GE pattern

Majors
Completing lower division major requirements is also key

Selection
Many of the UCs have additional screening criteria

Electives
Courses chosen to complete your 90 transferable quarter units as a UC transfer

When do I apply?

UC Application Filing Periods
All campuses
(except Berkely and Merced)
Fall Quarter 2010 November 1-30, 2009
Winter Quarter 2011* July 1-31, 2010
Spring Quarter 2011* October 1-31, 2010

Merced Fall Semester 2010 November 1-30, 2009
Spring Semester 2011 July 1-31, 2010

* Students interested in applying during the 2010-2011 academic year should apply as early as possible. Due to budget cutbacks, transfer admission to the University of California for Winter and Spring terms is limited to select UC campuses. To determine whether a campus and/or program is accepting applications for winter or spring, check UC - Open/Closed Majors by Campus Web site.

Caution: The final responsibility for a successful transfer program rests with the student. Resources online and at De Anza College are designed to assist you in getting as accurate information as possible. This information changes frequently, however, and can impact your admission to the university. It is highly advised that you meet periodically with advisors at both De Anza College and at the prospective university to confirm your choice of classes and develop an educational plan.
