Message from the DeanWelcome! My name is Coleen Lee-Wheat, and I am the dean of the Physical Education and Athletics Division at De Anza College. Our division is staffed by 14 full-time certificated instructors and 23 part-time instructors, a classified staff of six full time and two part time, administered by a full-time dean. We offer over 80 different activity classes, not including dance courses which are now listed under Creative Arts. We also have one of the only Community College Massage Therapy programs in the State. This program offers several certificates and an AA Degree. In addition, students may obtain an AA degree in Kinesiology from De Anza College, or complete a transfer Kinesiology degree to California State Universities. The Athletics Department offers 19 intercollegiate sports (nine men’s and ten women’s) with close to 500 student athletes. For the last 4 years, De Anza has won the All Sports Trophy. This is a perpetual trophy awarded by the Coast Conference for athletic excellence Thanks in part to Measure C funds, a Night of Magic fundraiser and other sources of money, we have been able to renovate our Fitness Center and Weight Rooms and purchase all new equipment. Our World Class swimming pools just got a face lift with new plaster and tile and our football and Track and field stadium is undergoing a complete rebuild which should be completed in January, 2012.. If you have suggestions for new offerings, or any other suggestions, please send me an email at: leewheatcoleen@deanza.edu with information. |
