Welcome to De Anza's Massage Therapy Program
De Anza College is the first community college in California to offer a state chancellor approved certificate and degree program in Massage Therapy. The program was founded in 1992 to instruct students in an eclectic approach to massage therapy with emphasis placed in the areas of international, sports, and deep tissue massage. The program at De Anza is based upon the medical model which requires comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. The intent of the program is to prepare students for gainful employment in this rapidly growing field, which is quickly becoming part of the mainstream of our society.
De Anza's mission is to offer students:
A De Anza student who succeeds in this program will pass the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and become successfully employed. Due to budget crisis in California all evening massage classes have been canceled, except for the winter quarter 2010 Introduction to Massage class. De Anza offers a 25.5 unit (516 hour) Certificate of Achievement, a 44.5 unit (876 hour) Certificate of Achievement Advanced, and a 52 unit Associate in Arts degree (1020 hour). The certificate programs take about two years to complete. Classes are offered, in the fall, winter, spring quarters, and summer session. The projected cost for residents of California for the Certificate of Achievement is about $331.50 for tuition (at $13 per unit). This figure does not include books, parking fees and additional quarterly campus fees. Financial aid is available for qualified students. Contact the Financial Aid Office. De Anza College is a member of The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) Council of Schools. Graduates of the De Anza Massage Therapy Program qualify for AMTA professional membership and to take the National Certification Examination. Our classes are approved for continuing education for nurses. |
