About Articulation

Articulation refers to the process of evaluating courses, or a sequence of courses, to determine whether coursework offered at a "sending" institution (e.g. De Anza College) will meet specific course requirements at a "receiving" institution (e.g. CSU, UC, or private college or university) for the purposes of admission, general education (GE), lower-division major preparation and/or elective credit. Successful completion of articulated courses at De Anza College (DAC) assures students that identified courses will be credited toward baccalaureate degree requirements upon transfer to a college or university.

To determine if a DAC course is articulated with a college or university, it must appear on a formal articulation agreement between the two institutions. Students may still transfer successfully to four-year colleges and universities without any formal articulation agreements in place. Many private and out-of-state colleges and universities provide unofficial Transfer Guides or Transfer Credit Equivalencies which may provide students with general information regarding transferable coursework.

It is important to note that Transfer Guides and Transfer Credit Equivalencies are NOT articulation agreements and should be used as an advising tool in consultation with a DAC counselor or academic adviser or four-year transfer college or university admissions representative.

DAC has established formal articulation agreements with CSU and UC campuses and other regionally accredited four-year colleges and universities located both in and outside of California.

  • CSU/UC

ASSIST is a student-transfer information system that displays reports of how course credits earned at one California Community College can be applied when transferred to a California State University or University of California campus.

Articulation agreements between DAC and CSU and UC campuses can be viewed by department (course-to-course), by major, and, when available, by general education (GE)-breadth on ASSIST.

ALERT: View important information about a delay in posting 2017-18 and 2018-19 articulation agreements on ASSIST.

  • CA Private

De Anza College develops and maintains articulation agreements by GE and/or by major with select California private colleges and universities, including:

Articulation agreements with California private colleges and universities are subject to periodic and/or annual updates.  Students are strongly encouraged to consult with a DAC counselor or academic adviser and with an admissions representative from the transfer institution of interest to help determine the transferability of DAC courses.

  • Out-of-State

De Anza College develops and maintains articulation agreements with out-of-state colleges and universities, including:

Articulation agreements with out-of-state colleges and universities are subject to periodic and/or annual updates.  Students are strongly encouraged to consult with a DAC counselor or academic adviser and with an admissions representative from the transfer institution of interest to help determine the transferability of DAC courses.

DISCLAIMER:  The final responsibility for successful transfer rests with the student.  The information posted on this website is designed to assist students in obtaining the most accurate transfer-related information possible.  However, this information is subject to change without notice, which may subsequently impact admission to a transfer college or university.

Students are encouraged to meet as early as possible in their academic careers and periodically with a DAC counselor or academic adviser to develop a Student Education Plan and with a transfer college or university admissions representative to confirm their choice of classes.
